Get to know Ludgina aka TreadChic
1. How did your running/wellness journey begin?
Growing up I was overweight…the kid that everyone had jokes about at school; from kindergarten to college. I lost some of the weight in high school; however, I gained about 30 pounds during my freshman year in college. That summer (June 1998), while I was home for a few weeks, my father (who stills walks almost every day) asked me if I wanted to go for a walk at the track with him (he never mentioned my weight; just spending time together) At first I was like...WHY?...lol! Since I loved having conversations with my dad and I thought it may help with the extra pounds I decided to join him. After a week of walking, I told him that I was going to try to run a lap. I slowly ran around the track and I never looked back and have been running for over 20 years. I thank my dad all the time for asking me to go for that walk! It’s because of him that I am where I am today with my running journey! I ended up running my first 5K and 10K on that track. At that time, I knew nothing about races, heart rate, the terms 5K and 10K were foreign to me as well. I just ran! I completed by first race (a half-marathon) in October 2011 in Baltimore, MD. What started as a method to shed some pounds turned into so much more!
2. What led you to create @treadchic and focusing on treadmill workouts?
I’ve always loved the versality of the treadmill. It’s such a great machine! In February of 2018, I started instructing a class called Trekking; a group exercise class that takes place on a treadmill. I did that for about a year and a half. The gym where I was instructing did not share my vision to help more people by adding online classes the way I was planning on doing it and they did not agree with me being online and instructing there, so, long story short in January of 2020 I decided to help more people by starting a YouTube channel. TreadChic was born! I’m so happy that I made that decision…being able to reach people that are all over the world has been such a blessing! I’m proud to have a channel that caters to various levels: walkers, runners and beginner runners! There is something for everyone and I meet each person at their level. I explain how to set your pace so that you know where you need to be. Everyone isn’t running at 10.0mph on a treadmill…each person is different and my workouts adjust for that! Your race…your pace!
3. What is your favorite part about helping others and the community you have created?
My favorite parts are helping others meet and accomplish their goals through my treadmill workouts, training plans, educating about correct running practices and other tips! One of the best things is helping new runners realize how amazing and capable they’re bodies are! It’s so fulfilling! The messages that I receive from subscribers of all ages about how they’re running for the first time, or they ran at their fastest speed, weight loss, etc. I just love it! Being able to help my community stay fit, motivated and injury free means so much to me!
4. Anything else you would like us to know?
I love helping communities in need! I had the opportunity to be a Race Director for a 5K that I planned and organized in 2017 and 2018! It was amazing! With the help of the community that we were stationed at at the time in Florida we were able to raise a total of $17,000 total for families in need. I hope to be able to start raising money to help others through TreadChic in the very near future!
